Introduction: Using the indicators of the global burden of the disease and the Democratic Development Index of Latin America from 2000 to 2016 their relationship with the state of health in Chile and Mexico was compared.
Objective: To characterize the associations to observe their relationship with the state of better or worse health
Material and Method: Epidemiological analysis, correlation and coefficients of summary “Z” tests of association were carried out.
Results: Chile with high democratic evaluation, presented minimal associations. Mexico with a lower rating presented strong associations between low democratic performance in its indicators such as lower gain in life expectancy, more years lost due to premature death and fewer years of healthy life.
Conclusions: A low democratic experience was associated with unfavorable health indicators in Mexico and a better democratic experience was associated with better results in Chile.
