Astrobiology is a science that studies the origin, distribution and evolution of life in the universe. Its origin is recent and the path to its development was full of challenges, however, at present it is one of the most important disciplines. This article covers the history of astrobiology for its consolidation as a science, mentioning some of the scientific exponents in the field who made the most relevant contributions to this discipline.
