Abstract

Since our eyes can only see at a specific range of electromagnetic spectrum wavelengths (called visible region), the study of the Universe in this particular range is a widespread and intuitive activity for humans. However, it is possible to discover new structures and phenomena by observing the same celestial objects at wavelengths that are different from the visible ones. This work describes an interesting, although not well-known, branch of astronomy, the radio astronomy. This paper presents some history, observing techniques, and recent astonishing discoveries achieved by radio astronomers.
