arsenic, water, biomarker, health, MexicoAbstract
The presence of Arsenic in water for human consumption has become a public health problem worldwide. In Mexico, exposure to this contaminant has been reported in different states of republic and it has been associated with several health effects.
Using the scientific database PubMed, the keywords Arsenic, Water and Mexico were introduced to compile existing studies on the concentrations of Arsenic in water in different sites in the republic, as well as the effects on the health of exposed Mexican populations.
After analysis, associations with metabolic, cardiopulmonary, and reproductive effects were found, as well as the presence of kidney and DNA damage biomarkers.
All of this highlights the need to have removal strategies and, above all, stricter and more applicable public policies that can improve public health in our country.
