Digital Preservation Policy

EPISTEMUS, SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND HEALTH is compatible with the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) system that guarantees the journal a permanent and secure archive. LOCKSS is an open-source program developed by the Stanford University Library that allows libraries to retain selected web journals by regularly searching registered journals to collect and archive new published content.

Each file is continuously validated with records from other libraries, so any damaged or lost content can be restored using those records or the same journal.

See the LOCKSS Publishing Manifest page.

The journal assures long-term accessibility and availability of its contents. It is made up of computer materials of enduring value worthy of being preserved for future generations, and coming from different communities, industries, sectors and regions. Not all digital materials have lasting value, but those that do require active conservation methodologies to maintain the continuity of digital heritage. All articles are in the cloud outside the institution.

PKP Preservation Network (PN)

The journal is preserved through the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), a platform hosted by Open Journal Systems (OJS) that enables free, decentralized archiving for journals that meet basic criteria. Content is automatically backed up to encrypted, geographically distributed storage, ensuring its secure long-term preservation. This ensures that published articles remain accessible even if the journal ceases to operate and that DOIs resolve stably in preserved copies, protecting the integrity and continuity of citations. https://pkp.sfu.ca/pkp-pn/
